1. Explain briefly the definition of Translation!

2. Explain briefly the differences among intralingual, interlingual, and intersemiotic translation! Give
example for each term!
3.  a. Find the appropriate Indonesian equivalent of the English words underlined in the context.
1. Fine particles of gold are found in sweater.

2. It rained all morning, but turned fine later.

b. Translate the following Indonesian sentences into the equivalent English sentences!

1. Berjudi adalah kebiasaan yang buruk sekali.
2. Andita didenda karena mengendarai mobil tanpa lampu.
3. Kami tidak membeli sesuatu yang mahal tadi malam

4. Saya tidak hanya membaca bukunya tetapi juga menonton filmnya

5. Belum pernah aku melihat film sekocak ini.

4. Translate the following text from English into Indonesia!

As president of the Indonesian Chamber of commerce and Industry, I consider it an honor to be given the   opportunity to address this message to the many readers of this magazine in the cities of South-East Asia and Australia.

If we look back several centuries in the history of Indonesia we will see that long before the Europeans had arrived in Asia there already existed at that time an entrepreneurship was very much alive in those days and entrepreneurs, the traders and the sea faring merchants were greatly respected members of the society.

    1.Translation is an operation performed on languages:a process of substituting a text in one language for a text on another.

    2.The differences are
    A. Intralingual translation is an interpretation of verbal signs by means of other signs in the same language. Ex: rewrite an indonesia poem”Dongeng Sebelum Tidur by Gunawan Muhammad” into short prose.
    B. Interlingual translation is an interpretation of verbal signs by means some other language. Ex: translate from English text into Indonesia.
    C. Intersemiotic translation is an interpretation of verbal signs by means of signs system. Ex: Indian story,Mahabarata is translated into Javanese culture is leather puppet.

    3. A.1.fine in first is halus or lembut
    2.fine in second is baik or cerah
    3.fine in third is denda
    4.late in fourth is almarhum
    5.late in fifth is telat
    B.1. Gambling is really a bad habit.
    2. Andita gets a fine because of driving her car without lighting.
    3.We bought nothing expensive last night.
    4. I not only read the book but also watch the film.
    5. I have never seen this funny film.

    4. Sebagai presiden kamar dagang dan industri,saya mempertimbangkan sebuah kesempatan gaji yang diberikan tertuju pesan ini kepada para pembaca majalah yang berada di kota kota asia tenggara dan australia.
    Jika kita melihat sejarah negara Indonesia bebera abad yang lalu kita akan mengetahui bahwa lama sebelum bangsa eropa tiba di Asia disana sudah ada pada saat itu sebuah kewirausahaan yang dulu sangat banyak pda hariitu dan para pengusaha,para pedagang dan saudagar laut sangat dihormati masyarakat.

    1. Translation is the transmittal of written text from one language into another. Although the terms translation and interpretation are often used interchangeably, by strict definition, translation Refers to the written language, and interpretation to the spoken word.
    2. The differenciate are :
    a. Intralingual translation is defined as the transfer of some verbal signs into different verbal signs pertaining to the same language.

    b. Interlingual machine translation is one of the classic approaches to machine translation. In this approach, the source language, i.e. the text to be translated is transformed into an interlingua, i.e., an abstract language-independent representation. The target language is then generated from the interlingua.

Jika kita melihat kembali beberapa abad dalam sejarah Indonesia kita akan melihat bahwa jauh sebelum orang Eropa telah tiba di Asia sana sudah ada pada waktu itu sebuah kewirausahaan pada saat itu dan pengusaha, para pedagang dan pedagang laut faring itu sangat dihormati anggota masyarakat.
